Great opportunities to volunteer at the YMCA

We have all sorts of great ways to gain work experience in our programmes whether at the front desk, behind the scenes, or After School Care and Holiday Programmes for kids aged 5-13 years.

The biggest focus for volunteering is with our kids programmes that help children develop physically, socially, creatively, emotionally, academically and culturally while simply playing and having fun in a safe environment.

We need quality volunteers to provide an enriching experience for children in our region, and what we find is that for volunteers it proves to be an enriching experience for them also.

People who volunteer on our After School Care and Holiday Programmes have loads of fun and make new friends. They engage in a positive, fun and motivating time and come away with valuable work experience.

Kate Wallace-Boyd about volunteering at the YMCA

I have volunteered for ymca for most of 2012. During this time I have helped out in the after school care program in Gate Pa/ Greerton. It has been very fun and entertaining and I will always remember the glitter fight will all the kids and the ymca leaders, I was still trying to get the glitter out of my jersey months later. Everyone working there was very kind and helpful and you could clearly see the enjoyment they get out of the job. The kids were always entertaining and were forever coming up with new games and ideas to keep us busy. I really enjoyed seeing all the different things they could come up with using their imaginations.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and it was a really great opportunity to work with young kids.

Ashleigh Parker about volunteering at the YMCA Mount After School Care Centre

My time at YMCA, unfortunately quite short, has been filled with playground games, children’s drawings, paper mâché swords, popcorn relays, gymnastics, story books, yummy afternoon teas, cardboard creations, and a whole lot of fun. I’ve got to work with lovely people, and a bunch of kids who never fail to make me laugh. I would happily volunteer my time towards this great organization again, and I am grateful of this opportunity.

Big thanks to our partner Volunteeer Western Bay of Plenty.
