ASC Supervisors

Tania Morrison, Bellevue Supervisor

Nickname: Tarnz

Tania moved to the Sunny Bay of Plenty approximately 6 years ago. Before joining the YMCA family, Tania worked at Cadbury's, at a After School Care in Auckland and her most challenging role, being a stay at home mum.During her time here Tania rekindled her spirit and is back working with children which is one of her passions.

Tania is a humorous, fun loving individual. She loves to encourage the creative side of the children at Bellevue and involve them in many fun and yet educational activities. In addition to enjoying drama and socialising, Tania has really long wavy hair which is awesome for when she wants to dress up as a clown.

Carol Finn, Mount Maunganui Supervisor

Originally from South Africa, Carol is the mother of two adult children and has lived in New Zealand for 17 years. She absolutely loves it here and also loves working for the YMCA. Her favourite thing about her job is providing a safe and happy place for children to come after school.

Although she lives in Matua, Carol has such a great time working at the Mount After School Care Centre she doesn’t mind travelling over the bridge everyday to get there.  One of the highlights of working at the Mount is that they love playing “spotlight” where all the lights get turned off and have to find each other with torches.

Carol’s hobbies include long walks, bike riding and kayaking as well as visiting coffee shops and going to Te Puna for weekend outings.  Apparently acting skills aren’t her forte though - “I always play the role of a tree when it comes to performing skits!”

Hayden Mason, Greerton Supervisor

Nickname: Dewey (from Malcom in the middle)

Hayden is our Greerton After School Care Supervisor.  He is a huge fan of the outdoors and was lucky enough to have recently been sponsored to go to a 21 day Outward Bound course in the South Island.  During those three weeks he had to spend three days by himself in the bush, catching his own food, constructing his own shelter and building fires to keep warm. Although it was quite challenging, Hayden loved learning about and embracing the outdoor environment.

In addition to his hobbies of running, camping and roasting marshmellows over the fire, Hayden loves going to quiz nights as he seems to be really knowledgeable at useless trivia questions. He also recently shaved his head for “Shave for a Cure” in front of Papamoa Primary School’s assembly.

Heidi Blennerhassett, Papamoa Supervisor

Steve Campbell, Welcome Bay Supervisor

Nickname: Stevie-boy

Steve has been the Supervisor at Welcome Bay since February 2011.   In addition to teaching kids, his true passion is and has always been basketball. He played in the National League and still holds the record for the most games played by a New Zealander. He also played in the Masters Basketball League in Australia and currently coaches a few different basketball teams including the Tauranga Under 19s.

Steve has a 16 year old son and an 18 year old daughter who he loves hanging out with.  He reckons the best thing about the Welcome Bay ASC Centre is the diversity of the staff. While he is out on the basketball ball court with some of the kids, the other leaders are supervising arts and crafts, cooking, games in the playground etc. He also thinks the “Four O’Clock Challenge” every day is awesome and the kids love it.

In addition to knowing magic tricks, Steve’s other claim to fame is that he can spin a basketball on one finger whilst whistling, hopping on one leg and being blindfolded - all at same time!

Sheralee Schepers, Gate Pa Supervisor

Nickname: Shazza

Sheralee has a diploma in Social Science level 6 from Te Wananga O Aotearoa.  Originally from Hawkes Bay, she grew up on a farm 30 miles from Napier and attended Patoka Primary School where there only 20 kids enrolled in the entire school.

Having worked at the YMCA Tauranga for the past ten years, Sheralee thinks she has the best job in the world. “We get paid to do awesome activities with the next generation and impact the lives of youth in a positive way,” she said. “That is something I feel is a unique and is an experience that I cherish everyday.”

The mother of two teenage boys, Sheralee’s other interests include netball, painting, and reading. She is also a skilled balloon twister and often puts on a clown suit to attend public events and help promote the YMCA.
